It's that time of the new year. In January of each year, I write an article to help you think of your home, electronic and personal security. 2020 was a terrible year to say the least. The virus has influenced us all in different ways. Work from home that has increased dramatically. Computer, play and social media has also increased. All this increases our exhibition to web "bad actors".
Here are some things to consider.
Social Media:
I put this because of all the bad information about social media that can make you do something that can cause harm. Do not believe in "anything" you read or look at social media until you pay or check this information with other independent sources. This is especially
important with something about the virus or vaccine.
Working from Home:
Working from home drastically increased this year, what is amazing, has continued to work and paid. It also created security issues. If you work at home, keep the doors locked. Some outdoor cameras would be a good investment in your personal security.
Your Internet security must be considered. Make sure you have changed your passwords in your modem and Wi-Fi router. As a reminder, your password must consist of volume and lower case letters, numbers and symbols. It should not contain dictionary words and should be at least 12 characters. Invest in a good password management, which is also capable of generating good passwords.
Video meetings have also greatly increased in 2020.
As with nothing on the Internet, make sure your video meeting software is secured with a good password. You also need to know how to close audio and video on any computer you are using. You don't want anyone to manage your camera without your knowledge.
The computer you use must have an updated Internet Security program. Good will be updated at least every day if not every hour. You must look at a VPN program. You can already use one to access your business servers and computers.
If you are using Wi-Fi, check that you control routers passwords. This means that you have access to the router and have changed the default password. Most router instructions or cable companies will tell you how to do this.
The most important thing is to remain safe; You already know how to do it.
